Last time Fox attempted an adaptation of the classic X-Men “Dark Phoenix” story, they royally screwed it up in X-Men: The Last Stand.
In 2018, both the studio and X-fans will be hoping that the 12-year gap will allow younger movie-goers to give this X-reboot a chance at the box office.
Carrying on from where X-Men: Apocalypse left off, Dark Phoenix finds the likes of Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Professor X (James McAvoy), Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), and Beast (Nicholas Hoult) coming back to the franchise rebooted from X-Men: First Class.
Dark Phoenix is the third in a trio of X-Men adaptations Fox will be releasing in 2018, the others being Deadpool 2 and New Mutants.
Now, Variety is reporting that Fox is in talks with Jessica Chastain to take on the role of Lilandra of the Shi’ar Empire. Strangely, Lilandra has been characterised as a villain but X-fans will be aware of the fact that the titular character is actually the villain of the piece.
The piece of news is exciting as it indicates that the film will at least superficially be based on the original Dark Phoenix saga by writer Chris Claremont and artist John Byrne.
Geek Out! will be keeping a close eye on this one! Dark Phoenix will be released on November 18th, 2018.
… still there’s more …
